Datamars of Lugano, Switzerland, a global leader in high-‐ performance RFID-‐based solutions for the livestock, companion animal and textile industries, recently announced its acquisition of Zee Tags Ltd. of Auckland, New Zealand. The Swiss company previously had acquired Temple Tag, LLC of Temple, Texas in August 2012.

According to Klaus Ackerstaff, CEO of the Datamars Group, Datamars purchased Temple Tag and Zee Tags to leverage the respective strengths of the three brands internationally. The new entity creates one of the strongest organizations in the animal identification sector and combines superior product portfolios with state-‐of-‐the-‐art global manufacturing and leading worldwide teams to support an ever-‐ growing customer base.

“We look forward to continued growth in all three of our core market segments – livestock ID, companion animal ID and textile ID,” Ackerstaff noted. “Our vertically integrated manufacturing processes, with plants around the world, allow us to continually and successfully introduce state-‐of-‐the-‐ art animal identification technologies developed to meet the unique needs and challenges of the industries we serve.”

In commenting on the transaction, Zee Tag’s founder Mike Gardner stated, “Our goal is to further increase our capability to deliver high-‐quality products to our customers in the shortest possible timeframe, and in Datamars, we have found the ideal partner with highly complementary skills and markets. We are extremely excited to be able to serve more clients faster, with new and improved products in additional global markets.”

Operating as Z Tags North America in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, Zee Tags has a long history of bringing innovation to the livestock identification industry, starting with its one-‐piece No-‐Snag-‐Tag™ and unique “break-‐away” applicators. In addition to solving the problem of ears tearing during application, these products also provided superior healing and allowed for better tag retention versus conventional two-‐piece tags.

Z Tags also has provided livestock producers with improved visibility options through the use of laser-‐etching and other technologies to create darker, longer-‐lasting and more readable tags. These technologies allow for unlimited marking opportunities, including numbers, logos, brands and barcodes.

Like Zee Tags, Temple Tag is a pioneer in the livestock identification industry. The company introduced the first plastic livestock identification system more than 50 years ago and continually strives to improve livestock identification technology through a growing line of tags and applicators.

Although it serves all sectors of the livestock industry, Temple Tag is recognized as the leader in feedlot identification solutions.
